A Northern California parking garage originally built in the 1960s had endured decades of wear and environmental exposure on its ninth level, leading to significant concrete spalling and cracking. Without a waterproof system, the deck was left vulnerable to moisture intrusion, contributing to surface deterioration and safety concerns. The exterior ramp showed severe cracking and material loss, making it essential to address the facility’s structural integrity and waterproofing needs.
This 1960s parking deck is protected with a durable Stondeck waterproofing system built for long-term performance.
To restore and protect the parking deck, Stonhard implemented a comprehensive resurfacing and waterproofing solution. The team began by repairing all concrete spalls and routing and filling cracks to ensure a sound substrate. Following surface preparation, Stonchem epoxy primer was applied to provide a secure bond between the substrate and the overlayment.
Next, Stondeck FD4, a flexible waterproof decking system was installed. Stondeck FD4 is formulated specifically for parking garages. It is abrasion, chemical, and slip resistant, offering reliable durability and performance. The final part of the Stondeck FD4 system utilizes Stonseal PA7, an aspartic polyurethane coating, which was applied for increased UV and chemical resistance for long-term protection. The project marked the first phase of a multi-phase renovation that, when complete, will culminate in the deck’s full structural restoration, significantly extending its lifespan.
