"We looked at polished concrete but it didn't suit the customer [Porsche Cars North America], so we considered a large format tile, but there were concerns about vehicular traffic. This lead us to specify a seamless product that was new to us. We worked with the vendor [Liquid Elements, a brand of Stonhard] to deliver a sexy-looking version of asphalt."

Got questions? We've got answers. This FAQ section covers the most common inquiries about auto dealership flooring to help you make informed decisions.
Car dealership flooring is a set of seamless flooring systems matched to each area of a dealership, because each area faces different demands. Stonhard flooring is used in service bays, service garages, showrooms, parking garages, lobbies, offices, restrooms, hallways, and exterior walkways. Each area gets a system suited to its traffic, spills, and appearance requirements.
A mechanic shop needs a seamless floor that resists oil, grease, and automotive chemicals while standing up to dropped tools and vehicle traffic. Stonhard recommends Stonclad GS with a Stonkote GS4 coating for service bays and garages. For enhanced chemical resistance, Stonseal SK6 or Stonkote HT4 can be used as a topcoat, depending on the application requirements. The seamless surface helps contain spills for easier cleanup and maintenance.
A thin epoxy coating can chip or wear through in an active service bay, especially under heavy equipment and daily vehicle traffic. A smooth, high-gloss finish can also get slippery when wet. A thicker, high-strength system from Stonhard's Stonclad line, combined with a textured slip-resistant finish, addresses both problems.
Yes. Stonhard evaluates the existing concrete and prepares it before installation so the new flooring system bonds properly and lasts.
A showroom floor has to look like a premium setting and still hold up under vehicles. When designers at HOK worked on a showroom for Porsche Cars North America, they considered polished concrete and large-format tile before choosing a seamless system. They had concerns about how tile would hold up to vehicle traffic. They chose Crush from Liquid Elements, a durable, easy-to-clean floor (see the project).
Seamless decorative flooring gives a showroom a continuous surface with no grout lines, and it can be customized to fit a brand. Systems such as Stonres RTZ-2 offer a wide range of colors and designs.
Customer-facing spaces need floors that are comfortable, quiet, and easy to keep clean. Stonhard recommends Stonres RTZ-2 for lobbies and waiting rooms because of its ergonomics and acoustics, Smooth for offices, Reflect for restrooms, and Stontec ERF for interior hallways.
Timelines depend on the system, the size of the area, and the condition of the concrete. Stonhard offers fast-installation systems that can be completed in two days or less, and installers schedule the work around dealership operations to keep downtime to a minimum.
Stonhard serves customers locally and works worldwide. Stonhard manufactures and installs its own systems, so one point of contact manages the project from start to finish. To start a project, request a quote.
