A newly constructed egg processing facility in Kentucky required a high-performance flooring system for areas beneath the processing equipment. These zones would be exposed to frequent washdowns, thermal shock from hot and cold cleaning cycles, and increased chemical exposure from broken eggs. Without proper protection, the concrete slab would be at risk for etching and long-term degradation, which could compromise sanitation standards and operational efficiency. The facility needed a seamless flooring solution capable of withstanding thermal stress while delivering enhanced chemical resistance.
Stonhard installed Stonclad UL, a polyurethane seamless flooring system, at 1/8” thickness following mechanical surface preparation to ensure optimal adhesion. A heavy texture was applied to provide slip resistance appropriate for wet processing conditions. The system was finished with Stonchem 601, a novalac epoxy lining topcoat, to deliver enhanced chemical resistance to protect against acids and byproducts from broken eggs.
The durable new floor provides excellent thermal shock resistance and long-term protection of the concrete substrate, helping to maintain sanitation standards and extend the life of the facility’s surfaces. The result is an easy-to-clean floor engineered to perform in this demanding processing operation for years to come.
