A Dutch food production company faced serious safety and hygiene issues due to aging tiled flooring in its North Holland production facility. Over time, production oils built up on the tile surfaces significantly reduced the floor’s slip resistance, creating a risk for slip and fall accidents. The deteriorating grout between tiles made matters worse, allowing oil to penetrate the substrate — raising sanitation concerns and increasing the risk of food contamination. The company urgently needed a flooring solution that offered enhanced slip resistance, long-term hygienic performance, high durability to withstand heavy forklift traffic, and a rapid installation to minimize production downtime.

Stonhard Delivers a Durable, Hygienic Flooring System
Stonhard delivered a complete flooring overhaul tailored to the facility’s specific needs. The damaged tiles were removed, and Stonset TG6, a fast-setting, high-strength grout, was used to establish a solid substrate. To provide crack-bridging protection and long-term performance under thermal shock, Stonproof RH7 was applied. Nearly 50,000 sq. ft. of the troweled polyurethane Stonclad UR floor, along with a Stonkote HT4 coating in Sage, was installed to deliver a seamless, slip-resistant and hygienic system engineered for demanding food production environments. For added hygiene, an integral cove base using Stonclad UR was installed, creating a seamless transition between floors and walls.
