Stonhard Works with Client to Provide Custom Floor Design
Hyosung HICO, a Memphis-based manufacturer, specializing in large transformers, sought to modernize its employee cafe as part of a facility upgrade. The existing sheet vinyl, in place for over 12 years, had become worn and outdated. The company desired a flooring solution that would not only refresh the space’s appearance but also provide long-term durability for this high-traffic area used daily by employees.

Precision Installation of Polyurethane Flooring
To create a modern and durable floor for the cafe, Stonhard recommended its polyurethane Stontec TRF system, known for durability, stain resistance, easy maintenance, and decorative appeal. The project’s design journey kicked off when the customer discovered a photo in Stonhard’s mainline brochure and was captivated by the color scheme. These colors originated from a Stonhard installation completed over a decade ago, a floor that continues to perform for the customer today. From there, Stonhard collaborated closely with Hyosung HICO, using the proven palette as inspiration to create a fresh, custom design perfectly tailored to the space and aesthetic goals.

Using a ride-on scraper, Stonhard installers began removing the old sheet vinyl. Stonclad UR mortar was then installed for a smooth, level base. Following this, a clear epoxy undercoat was applied followed by the custom color flake placement, with each color scraped and sealed individually before sanding and resealing. A final sealer was installed to provide lasting protection, along with a 4” cove base at the wall. The Stontec TRF bright, modern cafe floor ties into Hyosung HICO's overall facility upgrades and showcases a custom color palette and flooring system that stands up to years of heavy use.
