RPM Wood Finishes Group – home to FinishWorks and Mohawk Finishing Products - faced a persistent challenge at their Hudson, North Carolina facility that manufactures and distributes premium wood touch-up, repair, and finishing products. A below-grade containment area had raw concrete floors and walls showing visible cracks and wear. While the existing containment system functioned, there was an opportunity to enhance its effectiveness in preventing any impact on local soil and water quality. Maintaining water quality and minimizing the risk of hazardous spill runoff were important goals the company aimed to address through improved containment solutions.
Stonhard addresses worn and cracked concrete with expert surface preparation and high-performance epoxy coatings.
Decision makers at RPM Wood Finishes Group chose Stonhard’s Stonchem 556 high-performance epoxy hybrid lining system for its excellent chemical resistance, crack and abrasion resistance, and impermeability. Stonhard installers mechanically prepared the raw concrete to ensure a sound surface for coating. Stonchem 556 was applied following strict procedural steps, beginning with a specialized primer, then saturated fiberglass reinforcement, followed by a mortar coat and high-performance topcoat. This multilayer application restored containment integrity while addressing aesthetic concerns and environmental safety.
The Stonhard installation team rose to the challenges of rain and high temperatures, successfully delivering a durable, seamless containment solution that protects local water quality and prevents hazardous waste runoff.
