Wicked Weed Brewing was expanding its North Carolina facility with a new production line. The brewery environment included wet areas, frequent hot washdowns, and heavy forklift traffic, so a long-lasting flooring system would need to be exceptionally durable, slip-resistant, and thermal shock-resistant. Additionally, a concrete sump pit showed significant degradation caused by corrosive spent grain fluids.
To limit downtime, the brewery production floor and sump pit lining would need to be installed within a short time frame. The customer also wanted the new floors to seamlessly match Stonhard floors that were installed in other areas of the facility, including the brewhouse and bottling line.
Stonclad UR and Stonchem 556 restore and protect the brewery's sump pit with a chemical-resistant lining to combat corrosion and extend its lifespan.
Stonhard prepared the raw concrete through planetary and hand grinding to ensure a proper bond before installing the floor. Stonclad UT, a troweled urethane mortar system, was installed to deliver a durable surface capable of handling forklift traffic and resisting thermal shock from hot washdowns. Lastly, a pigmented urethane topcoat was applied for increased durability, easy cleaning, and color match to existing floors.
For the sump pit, Stonhard leveled the surface by applying a urethane skimcoat. Next, Stonchem 556 epoxy lining was installed. Engineered for high performance, Stonchem 556 is chemical, crack, and abrasion resistant, with a topcoat that provides increased impermeability and long-term protection for corrosive environments. Stonhard completed the project within the brewery’s tight production schedule, delivering the protection and performance needed to meet Wicked Weed’s continued expansion and operational demands.
