Stonhard’s Liquid Elements Flooring: A Showpiece for a Biopharmaceutical Corporate Lobby

Project Overview

A biopharmaceutical corporate office in Massachusetts sought to replace their existing flooring system after cracks and damage left the lobby and key entrance area looking worn and unprofessional.

A seamless Smooth Duo floor transformed this lobby into a striking first impression, combining artistic design with long-term durability.

Designed for a high-traffic corporate entrance, this custom flooring system delivers a polished aesthetic while standing up to daily wear and tear.

Challenges & Requirements

The original vinyl tile flooring in the entrance was failing, with cracks and damage throughout the space. In addition to improving the area’s appearance, the new floor would need to address floor height discrepancies at transition points.

With important meetings and high-profile visitors approaching, the new floor needed to be installed within a short time frame and with minimal disruption to daily operations. Its design had to create a strong first impression while delivering the durability required for a high-traffic area.

From damaged vinyl tile to a seamless decorative surface, this lobby renovation created a welcoming space for employees and guests.

Solution

After the existing tiles were removed, the substrate was mechanically prepared and primed. A base layer of Stonclad GS epoxy mortar was then trowel applied and sealed with two coats of Stonkote GS4 epoxy coating. To achieve the desired decorative appearance, a 1 mm layer of Liquid Elements’ Smooth Duo self-leveling, resilient, seamless flooring was installed, followed by two applications of Stonseal CF7 polyurethane coating. This striking lobby floor is not only a high-end, artistic showpiece, but it is easy to maintain, durable, and long lasting.
