Failing Substrates and Heavy-Traffic Demands Lead Stadium Decision-Makers to Stonhard
As part of the Cleveland Guardians’ ongoing renovations at Progressive Field, the Terrace Hub — a key hospitality area offering luxury seating, food, and bar service — required a flooring upgrade to the high-traffic elevator and escalator landing areas. With previous flooring materials ranging from carpet to tile to sheet goods, the substrate below was in poor condition, revealing deep patches, drain voids, and mismatched repairs after demolition.
Stadium designers envisioned a seamless, upscale, micro terrazzo aesthetic — one that would unify the look across levels and stand up to heavy foot traffic. Stonhard Delivers Seamless, Durable Stoncrete EFX System
Prior to installing Stoncrete EFX, the Stonhard team prepped and leveled deep areas with high-strength, self-leveling Stonfil SL2 cementitious grout. Then, detailed patching was performed using Stonclad GS epoxy mortar. Finally, Stoncrete EFX was installed in an attractive, urban Downtown Gray with an amber aggregate selection. The result is a modern and visually cohesive, durable, low-maintenance surface that supports both the functional needs and sophisticated design of the Terrace Hub. Guests now move through a sleek, contemporary space that complements the premium seating experience.
