Challenges & Requirements
It was essential for the research facility’s floor to meet both electrostatic discharge (ESD) requirements and stringent cleanliness standards. In addition, a key challenge for the project involved preparing the substrate for the new installation. After the general contractor removed the existing floor, the underlying concrete slab required significant preparation and crack mitigation to ensure long-term durability and performance of the new floor system.

Solution
Stonlux ESD was selected as the ideal flooring solution for the research facility due to its ability to provide reliable electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection while offering a seamless, smooth surface that meets the stringent cleanliness standards of a laboratory environment. The installation began with shot-blasting the concrete to properly prepare the substrate. Crack mitigation measures were implemented to stabilize the slab, ensuring a solid foundation for the new flooring system. Epoxy primers were then applied to seal the surface, followed by a conductive primer to establish the necessary ESD properties. Finally, the Stonlux ESD system was installed, creating a durable, easy-to-clean surface designed to perform in a demanding research setting.
The finished floor now provides reliable ESD capabilities along with a seamless surface that supports a clean, controlled environment. The upgrade improved the facility’s functionality and positioned it for future growth and evolving laboratory needs.
