Stonhard Exceed Expectations for Metrolink's Union Station with Seamless Traffic Solution

Worn Floors and Failed Fixes Threaten L.A. Union Station

Metrolink's Los Angeles Union Station is the main railroad station serving Southern California. As one of the largest passenger rail terminals in the Western U.S., it serves hundreds of people each day. The station was in critical need for a flooring upgrade for its terminal ramp and stairwell before the end of their fiscal year. Failure to meet this deadline would jeopardize their upcoming budget.

This project presented several challenges, including uneven slopes, multiple elevation changes, and multiple layers of failed coatings from prior competitor installations.

Union Station stairwell restored with Stondeck XD2 — durable, long lasting, slip resistant. Built to withstand continuous foot traffic.

Durable Stondeck XD2 installed in Metrolink's Union Station tunnel, delivers a smooth, seamless finish.

Stonhard utilized tailored preparation techniques to address the uneven surface and strip away the old coatings. Crews successfully installed the high-performance, high-traffic Stondeck XD2 urethane flooring system, completing the project within two consecutive weekend windows and meeting all deadlines. The Metrolink team was extremely pleased with the floor system's appearance and performance, as well as Stonhard's clear communication, responsiveness, and dedication. As a result, they expressed interest in extending the partnership, with plans to renovate as many as eight more ramps at Union Station.
