Slip-Resistant Flooring Upgrade Enhances Safety and Performance at Navy Federal Credit Union

Aging Parking Garage Surfaces Create Performance Concerns

Navy Federal Credit Union’s Vienna, Virginia campus required a significant renovation to one of its six parking garages. Spanning 42,000 sq. ft., the garage needed an appearance and performance overhaul. Over time, the concrete surface had become worn, posing slip hazards to visitors. Additionally, loading dock and warehouse spaces in other areas of the campus required a durable flooring solution suitable for the demanding environment.

Stondeck XD2 delivers durability and slip-resistance for high-traffic parking garages.

High-Performance Traffic Coatings and Epoxy Systems Deliver Long-Term Protection

Stonhard recommended and installed Stondeck XD2, a urethane traffic coating system, throughout the parking garage to provide a durable, slip-resistant, easy-to-clean surface for long-term performance under vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The substrate was prepared using shot blasting and grinding to ensure a strong bond and lasting finish. For the loading dock and warehouse spaces, Stonclad GS, an epoxy mortar flooring system, was installed in Silver Gray to maintain a consistent look across the facility. To further enhance performance, Stonkote GS4 epoxy coating and Stonseal SK6 sealer were applied. The addition of Stonseal SK6 provides critical wear, chemical, and abrasion resistance, resulting in a safer, easy-to-clean, seamless floor designed for demanding environments.

Following the success of this installation, the Navy Federal Credit Union maintenance team expressed interest in extending the Stondeck XD2 system to additional parking levels, as well as exploring future flooring projects across other areas of the campus, including kitchens and mechanical rooms.
