A turbine manufacturer set out to restore the production areas in its manufacturing facility after the concrete surfaces sustained significant wear and deterioration under severe operational demands, including continuous forklift traffic and the movement of turbines weighing more than 100,000 pounds.
A long-term flooring solution capable of withstanding severe impact, abrasion, and heavy rolling loads was required to protect the facility’s concrete substrate. In addition, specialized preparation would be required to address oil contamination and ensure proper adhesion of the flooring system.
Project planners sought a flooring standard that would improve the overall appearance of the production environment and offer the ability to extend to other spaces in future renovations.
Built for demanding production environments, Stonclad GS delivers long-term protection against heavy rolling loads, forklift traffic, and daily industrial wear.
Stonhard began with extensive surface preparation, including shot blasting to remove deteriorated materials and properly prepare the substrate. Oil-contaminated areas were first cleaned with Stonkleen TD9, a heavy-duty degreaser proven to remove embedded oils and contaminants. A penetrating primer was then applied to promote maximum adhesion and ensure long-term system performance.
Stonclad GS, a heavy-duty epoxy mortar system, was troweled at a thickness of 1/4 inch across the 15,000 sq. ft. production space. Engineered for demanding industrial environments, Stonclad provides exceptional resistance to impact, abrasion, and heavy equipment traffic. To enhance durability and aesthetics, the floor was coated with Stonkote GS4 epoxy coating and sealed with Stonseal GS6 polyurethane coating.
Stonhard transformed the production area with a seamless, high performance flooring system designed to withstand the rigorous demands of turbine manufacturing. The success of this installation established Stonclad GS as a standard across multiple facilities for the
customer.
